إبراهيم حسين معرفي

Sources

Every fact on this site, the source it comes from, and the words of that source. Quotes in Arabic are given as written; English translations are ours. The pictures are cinematic illustrations, not archive photographs, with one exception: the four prints in the family-album scene are real photographs of Ibrahim H Marafie, supplied by the family and shown as they are. The two portraits near the end were made from family photographs.

Diwan Marafie — his page on diwanmarafie.com

  1. Ibrahim H Marafie, son of Hussein.إبراهيم حسين معرفيHis name as the diwan writes it; Al-Anba and Dalil write “إبراهيم حجي حسين معرفي”. In Arabic naming the second name is the father’s, so “H” is Hussein. Nothing further about his father is stated on this site.

The family says he is its first and largest giver.فقد كان أول وأكبر من ساهم في بناء سور الكويت الرابع والذي تم بناؤه بعد تحرير الكويت مباشرةThe Fourth Wall (سور الكويت الرابع) was the barrier of trenches and fencing along the border with Iraq, raised after liberation through a public donation campaign and named after the three walls that once ringed Kuwait City (Al-Raya archive, 1992: “A popular call to build the Fourth Wall”). “First and largest” is the family’s own account; no independent record was found. Dates for the wall differ between sources (his son, in Al-Anba, says 1992), so the site gives no year.
  12. His good works: a renewed hospital ward, a health centre, a mosque in Kuwait, and a school, a hospital and a mosque in Bandar Mashour. The ward was renovated and modernised, not newly built. The diwan says ward 11; Al-Anba says ward 10, so the site gives no number.
